Treasures of pre-cinema history
The magic lantern
The slides were bought in Spain. One will find 250 characters painted on eight slides! Each person shows an own individual expression. The religious or festive event illustrated on the slides remains a mystery. Any idea to solve the mystery is welcomed.
The set is a masterpiece of early Spanish slide painting. No other examples are known.
The type of dresses of the personage, the pattern of the paper binding, the brownish colouring of the painting, all that suggests to date the set into the second half of the 18th century. The slides represent a continuous storyline, as numbers are noted on the frame.
